5 Questions is a new series where online business women are asked 5 questions about being a mom and entrepreneur. To be featured, please contact me.
Melissa Havran is a stay-at-home mother of two. Her company Remember When… takes away the time and stress it takes to create a custom photo album from your digital photos.
1. What or who inspired you to start your business?
Taking pictures and preserving memories has always been important to me. I never felt that I quite fit into the traditional scrapbooking circles. After creating photo albums as gifts for many years, my friends and family were really encouraging me to branch out and start my own custom photo album business.
2. What motivates you?
I love to know that when people open their photo albums the pictures inside are doing just what they were intended for…preserving memories. It is a joy to know that memories can preserved in albums and be shared for years to come.
3. How do you balance being a mom and an entrepreneur?
I have always told myself that I am a mother first. While working on constructing albums, if there is a cry for me, I stop what I am doing and spend time with my children. At times it seems like there is a lot of work to be done and not enough time, but it is all worth it.
4. What do you love most about what you do?
Preserving memories. There is something about creating a pictorial heritage that just touches my heart. For instance, scanning old slides and negatives and then creating a photo album that can be seen, loved, and shared from pictures that would otherwise be in an obsolete format is something that is very near and dear to my heart.
5. What single piece of advice would you give someone who is starting out?
Be passionate about what you are doing. Know that some days will seem long but that it will be your passion and drive that will see you through.
