1. What or who inspired you to start your business?
My children (one plus triplets) inspired me to start Joggermom.com. I have always been very active and have enjoyed running. I had been taking Stroller Strides classes for just over a year (first with all four and then with my triplets) when I came to the realization that it was the mommy’s in the back pushing their Graco’s that struggled the most. The real reason being is that they were pushing a small plastic wheeled stroller. Pushing one or more kids on an air filled tires is so much easier. Why work harder than you have to. So, I decided to lend my advice on strollers and expertise on raising multiples with other parents. I think walking or running outdoors with your children is one of the greatest gifts you can share with them.
2. What motivates you?
I have always been self motivated to do better at whatever I do. I am just a little competitive. I worked for over 15 years selling & merchandising wholesale children’s clothing. Working in the garment industry is both fun and fast paced. Having my own business still keeps me connected with what is happening trend wise. So, if you ever need your stroller to match your babies outfit I am your gal!
3. How do you balance being a mom and an entrepreneur?
Balance is something I struggle with on a daily basis. Everything is done in small pockets of time I carve into each day. It can all be done but, you just have to prioritize. Being very organized helps in getting things done. Write things down that you need, want and have to get done. If it does not happen this week put it on the following week’s list. Eventually things do get done.
4. What do you love most about what you do?
I especially love helping parents of multiples find a great stroller. It is so hard finding a stroller for more than 2 children. If you have 2 in infant seats you can almost forget about having just one stroller. There is finally something coming out in December that twin parents are going to flip over. I really like having satisfied customers and pride myself in getting back to anyone with a question immediately.
5. What single piece of advice would you give someone who is starting out?
If you are starting an on-line business it is not something you can start and then let the business take care of itself. People have questions and products change. All of this takes time. Being that I currently work out of a home office I can be caught working at 6 a.m. on a Saturday or 8 p.m. on a Monday. Your work never ends.
