1. What or who inspired you to start your business?
I started writing The Shopping Mama shortly after the birth of my daughter. I was home alone with two young children and feeling slightly isolated. The blog was a great outlet for me and a great way to network and meet other moms.
2. What motivates you?
I am motivated by the constant search to find the next great thing. There are so many beautiful, innovative and ingenious things out there and its fun to be able to share those unique finds with readers of The Shopping Mama.
3. How do you balance being a mom and an entrepreneur?
Some days I don’t do it well. LOL. I often find myself saying, “Just one more email.” But, my kids come first so I have to put the laptop away and roll around on the floor with my little ones. At the end of the day, it’s not a new review or giveaway on the blog that makes me smile – it’s thinking about something my son said or my daughter did for the first time that will get me grinning from ear to ear.
4. What do you love most about what you do?
I love the online relationships I’ve formed. I’ve really met some amazing moms – both bloggers and readers – and that makes all the hard work worth it. I also love the idea that I’m helping a mom entrepreneur grow her business through exposure on the blog or that I’ve helped a mom find the perfect birthday gift for an upcoming birthday party.
5. What single piece of advice would you give someone who is starting out?
Be patient and don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Set your own realistic goals and make them happen. And, really, if it’s not fun, don’t do it.
